we care about people and planet.
Jacob Williams, Co-Owner of Hana Harvest and Maui Land Management.
Born and raised in America’s breadbasket, California’s central valley, Jacob had a front row seat to the growth of industrial agriculture and he didn’t like what he saw. With a passion for the soil and small-scale farms, Jacob put his passion into action in Hana, Maui.
Jacob and his longtime friend Austin Herzog, co-own two Hana-based businesses—Hana Harvest and Maui Land Management.
Maui Land Management starts with the soil, helping farmers and landowners to implement regenerative practices. Hana Harvest provides a outlet for small farmers, home harvesters and value-added producers to sell their products at a competitive rate.
Through the two businesses Jacob and Austin are influencing the local food system from soil to plate.
Vision, Mission, Values
Our Vision
We envision a thriving network of small farmers and ranchers that work together to enhance soil health, grow nutritious food and maximize the economic value of agricultural products in order to provide economic opportunity for Hana residents.
Our Mission
Our mission is to promote regenerative farming practices and provide economic opportunity in the community of Hana. We achieve our mission by purchasing from small farmers, backyard harvesters, ranchers, artisans and community organizations that apply sustainable and regenerative farming practices in Hana and in the State of Hawaii. We pay living wages to employees and above-market prices to small and emerging farmers whenever possible.
Regeneration.
We nurture the soil as the foundation of our agricultural system and strive to employ the principles of regenerative farming on land that we steward, and promote regenerative practices with the local farmers that we work with.
Hana First.
We seek to support the land, people, culture and community of Hana in everything we do. We seek indigenous wisdom and listen to feedback from our community, employees and culture. We prioritize sourcing from Hana farmers and vendors, and recruit employees from within the Hana community.
Be a Model, Amplify Impact.
We share our know-how about creating an environmentally sustainable and economically successful business model in order to amplify the impact on our island and in our world.
Responsible Tourism.
As a business that interacts with hundreds of people a day at our Cafe and Retail Store, we feel a sense of responsibility to help set the tone for a visitor’s day in Hana by communicating with respect and kindness, and promoting sustainable and responsible tourism.
Passionate, Purposeful People.
We seek out people who are passionate about our mission and purposeful about carrying it out. We want to see our employees and partners achieve their highest visions for themselves and support them in growing within, or beyond, the company.
